Take a Bite Out of Bullying with Ascend Orthodontics

Take a Bite Out of Bullying with Ascend Orthodontics

At Ascend Orthodontics, we believe that a smile provides the confidence to excel. It is the outlet for expressing our passions, our excitement, and our determination. Every smile is unique and deserves to be shared freely, without fear or hesitation. That’s why we are proud to stand with the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) to support their powerful anti-bullying campaign, "Bullying Bites."

This initiative is close to our hearts because it aligns with our core mission: to build confidence and foster positive change, one smile at a time. We know that for many, especially young people, the journey to a confident smile can be challenging. Bullying, in any form, can cast a shadow over this experience. By joining this campaign, we aim to help create a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to be themselves.

Why Bullying Bites Matters

Bullying can have lasting effects on a person's self-esteem and mental well-being. It often targets perceived differences, and orthodontic treatment can sometimes make children and teens feel self-conscious. The "Bullying Bites" campaign addresses this head-on by promoting a message of acceptance, kindness, and support. It transforms the conversation from one of vulnerability to one of strength and unity.

The campaign encourages us all to recognize that our differences are what make us special. It’s about building a supportive environment in our schools, communities, and online spaces. When we stand together, we send a clear message that bullying has no place here. This collective effort empowers those who have been affected by bullying and inspires bystanders to become active allies.

Mark Your Calendars: Unity Day is October 22

A cornerstone of the anti-bullying movement is Unity Day, celebrated this year on Wednesday, October 22. This is a day dedicated to joining together to create a world that is kinder, more accepting, and more inclusive. On Unity Day, people across the nation wear orange to show their support for bullying prevention.

Orange is a color that represents warmth, safety, and visibility. By wearing it, you send a vibrant and powerful message of solidarity. You show that you stand with those who have been bullied and that you are committed to being part of the solution.

We invite you, our patients, and our entire community in Loveland, Louisville, and Fort Collins to join us in wearing orange on October 22. It’s a simple yet profound way to show that we are united against bullying and dedicated to fostering a culture of kindness.

Take the Pledge: Stand for Kindness and Friendship

Words have power, and so do promises. The "Bullying Bites" campaign features a simple but meaningful pledge that anyone can take to commit to making a positive difference. It’s a personal declaration to be a force for good in the lives of others.

The pledge is:

"I will be a friend. I will be kind. I can make a difference. I will be somebody willing to take a bite out of bullying!"

Taking this pledge is more than just reciting words. It's about making a conscious choice every day to:

  • Be a Friend: Reach out to someone who may be feeling isolated or alone. A simple hello or a smile can make a world of difference.
  • Be Kind: Choose empathy and understanding in your interactions. Think about the impact of your words and actions on others.
  • Make a Difference: Don't be a bystander. If you see someone being treated unkindly, speak up or get help from a trusted adult. Your actions can inspire others to do the same.

We encourage everyone in the Ascend Orthodontics family to take this pledge. You can write it down, share it with your family, and talk about what it means to you. Together, these individual commitments create a powerful wave of change that can transform our communities for the better.
